Bridgeport pedestrian suffers injuries in car crash

Connecticut state police are trying to determine what happened in a Bridgeport pedestrian. According to authorities, the incident took place late in the evening last weekend on I-95. One pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while he or she was standing in a median at 11:30 p.m. The name of the injured pedestrian has not yet been released.

The crash happened on I-95's southbound side, not far from exit 26. Troopers have confirmed that the pedestrian was standing in the left median when struck by the oncoming vehicle.

Police shut down the interstate's center and left-hand lanes for hours in order to collect evidence relating to the crash. Meanwhile, the pedestrian -- who was fortunate to survive -- was transported to Saint Vincent's Medical Center for medical treatment.

It is vital for police to investigate the cause of any pedestrian-related car crash. Once the cause of an accident is determined, then prosecutors may bring criminal actions against the driver or other at-fault parties. These criminal proceedings will bring the unlawful party or parties to justice criminally, and they can also provide valuable evidence to the injured pedestrian -- for the purpose of seeking financial restitution in civil court.

Usually, injuries suffered by Connecticut pedestrians who have been hit by negligent motorists are severe, and they can come with a lifetime of pain, disability and other problems. For this reason, any evidence to support a claim for financial restitution against an at-fault driver will be useful to the injured pedestrian, who will need to find a way to pay for his or her many medical bills, lost wages, attorneys' fees, litigation costs and more.
