The Threat of Distracted Drivers

Four out of five drivers surveyed believe that both cell phone use and texting while driving are a cause of concern on our Connecticut roads. Drivers state that they feel like they are more at risk forcar accidents and injuries sustained in a collision than they were five years ago. Distracted driving has been an area of focus lately. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), nearly 6,000 people died in crashes that happened in 2008 involving a distracted driver, while more than half a million were injured. The NHTSA is currently conducting a high visibility enforcement project in Connecticut. Beginning April 10, 2011 law enforcement will be out in full force making sure drivers keep their eyes on the road. Drivers caught violating cell phone laws will be ticketed.
