OH DEER!! Connecticut Car Accidents!
This time of year Connecticut drivers face an additional obstacle on their morning and evening commute. That obstacle is deer! With fall comes and increase in the number of deer on the move. Unlike the summer months, deer move to more open areas in the fall to look for food.
Studies show that deer move more in the dusk and dawn hours than they do in broad daylight. These hours are prime driving times for our Connecticut employees, and as a result, we have more Connecticut car accidents! When a driver suddenly spots a deer they are faced with a very quick judgment call. The initial reaction is to swerve and avoid hitting the animal, however, this may result in a crash with an oncoming vehicle.
Deer travel in packs. It is rare to find a deer raoming the woods alone. Usually they travel in packs. This can fool our Connecticut drivers. If you see a deer in the distance crossing the street, so not assume you are out of harms way. There are usually one or more deer following the same path.
Connecticut motor vehicle accidents involving deer can be quite serious. Property damage can be extensive, often times the car is totaled. Injuries sustained in a deer vs. motor vehicle accident can be very serious including death.
As a native of Connecticut I have come to love seeing these beautiful animals bounce their way through the woods surrounding our home. However, this makes me extra cautious and a very noisy back seat driver during the fall and winter months while driving durring the morning and evening hours!
